  2. My favorite Halloween costume has always a witch. I have been a witch for most Halloweens, even now in my 30's, I still dress as a witch for Halloween.Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I am having my second child in October ( around the 15th) and I was really trying for a Halloween baby!

  3. I was a dinner table with my head (with braids) poking through on a dinner plate. The table was set with knife, fork, spoon and napkin with a glass goblet. There was a nice tablecloth hanging down to cover most of my body except the feet. I thought it was the coolest thing!

  4. My fave costume was always a gypsy. Tells you how old I am. No cartoon or movie characters in the loop then. I thought I was sooooo special with a long flouncy skirt, hoop earrings and loads of bangle bracelets. Just thinking about it makes me smile. :>)

  11. My favorite costume was when I went to work for our Halloween contest dressed as the lead singer at the ball in "Hocus Pocus". He had really cool skull makeup and I was able to recreate it. I wore a tea-stained cheesecloth scarf and bought a really cool top hat. My shirt was painted with puff glow-in-the-dark skeleton ribs and I sewed cloth bone cut-outs to my black slacks. I won!

  17. My favorite halloween costume was a gypsy. I think I was 8 years old and my mom blew up balloons to put in my shirt and pantyhose. I was silly curvy but I enjoyed making people laugh!

  21. Hummmmm....favorite hHalloween costume would have to be a Beatnik (remember Dobie Gillis) It was in the late 50's and I was thirlled that I could wear an old shirt with leggings and "Make Up"! Sound lame now but when you are a kid, Halloween was just the best!

I have become a fan of this blog and added a link to my blog. Love the goodies you are giving away!

  22. I have joined the blog my most favorite costume was a store bought Ben Cooper gyspy outfit, I beleive, complete with mask. You know those mask, bout half way thru the night the elastic string would break and sting your face lol. I can remember it so well I was 5 and Mama was fixing supper and I was all antsy ready to go. I paraded around the kitchen and living room in my getup, mask sitting on my head like a hat and eating a bowl of soupbeans and fried cornbread. I can almost smell the country ham in the beans. That is my most favorite memory of my childhood and my favorite holiday.

  23. Wonderful prizes! My favorite costume was a two headed monster. Me and a friend buttoned ourselves in my dads giant coat and made our faces green. It was more fun just trying to walk in tandem and not fall over. We did it for three years in a row!

  24. My favourite costume was one I made when I was 11. It was a horse! I was the front and my friend got the bum end! It was fun to make and wear, using old sheets and paints. Back in the 60's homemade was the only way to go. Thanks for such a great giveaway and a chance to win!

  25. The year after Star Wars came out, I was Luke Skywalker - it was the first time I made my own costume (white terrycloth bathrobe, khaki dress pants, winter boots). It was also the Halloween that lives in my memory as The Perfect Halloween - my aunt on the front porch as a witch complete with smoking cauldron (of cider), my dad dressed as a ghost and would stand in the street while my sister & I trick-or-treated, looking all spooky. It was the Halloween that I aspire to give my kids every year now, 25 years later.

  27. I'm an "official" follower now! Only lurked before. My best halloween costume was one I made myself. Until then, my mom always bought one from the 5&10...Snow White or Cinderella with the plastic mask. I was invited to a teen Halloween party. I wanted to be Morticia so I put together what I thought was the perfect costume complete with black yarn hair and octopus dress and I practiced a shuffling walk like Carolyn Jones did on TV. I always thought she was so glamourous. Thanks for offering this great give-away!

  33. Forgot to mention my favorite Halloween costume...it's been so long I have to think about that. I can recall costumes for my own children, but not me. My mother used to buy the store type costumes...I do remember liking the Snow White costume she purchased at a five and dime...still wish I had that costume!! I think I'm a fan on FB, but will go check it out just in case.

  35. So intriguing to read all the comments.....and I had to enter because I am a "HALLOWEEN" girl...born 29th October.... so, I grew up and ALWAYS had Costumed Birthday Parties....

As a child, I think my favourite costume was a "Flight Attendant".....my Mum was one - for real, so I was able to wear her cap ( a tad large) and carry her handbag (a tad long) - but the jacket and skirt she had made to fit....I couldn't wear her high-heels...and those days, there weren't any for kids....so I was resigned to wear my patent Mary-Janes....

As an Adult (hey, I am still having costumed Birthday Fetes).... I was a "Unicorn" a few years back.... sigh....noone "Got It"...until I explained..... people CAN be so dense at times....

    Love and...here comes the Autumn,

  36. I was either a witch (still am, hehe!) or a gypsy lady. I loved the mask that came with the gypsy costume, it would peer errily out of the box, daring me to put it on! Then she became me, and I would hoot and holler and collect my goodies trick or treating. Such great memories. Halloween is the best time of the year! ♥

  40. When I was in high school(nearly 30 years ago!), a friend and I decided to be werewolves. We were broke, so decided to buy a couple of roving type wigs and spirit gum. Cost us about $3 total. With mom's makeup (I don't wear makeup), scissors and a lot of laughing, we actually glued tufts of hair, from the wig, onto our faces, added black noses and darkened our eyes, to create the werewolves.

Back then, we were allowed to wear our costumes all day, but my friend and I regretted it... talk about itchy! LOL! We won the costume contest, but we paid in pain, rashes and embarrassment for the rest of the week. ; ) See, we didn't buy spirit gum remover... lol!

  41. my favorite Halloween costume was the year I was 7. I wanted to be a princess and my mom took an old evening gown and created a beautiful princess dress and made me a crown and wand with cardboard and aluminum foil, the only thing is that she left the dress too long and I kept falling down and dropping all my candy. It rained and I pretty much lost all of my candy, but my little sister shared hers with me.

  42. What great prizes!! How very exciting it would be to win them.
My favorite Halloween costume was a Cavewoman. I was in my 40s and loved dressing for Halloween. I went out in this costume with my friends and had the best time!! I bought faux fur at the fabric store - cut out a smallish costume - boiled bones and made earrings from them and also wore some bones on the rope around my waist. I made booties out of the fur for my feet - made my hair messy and frizzy and smeared brown paint all over my body to look like dirt. What a great time I had!! That is still my favorite costume to this day!!

  47. I'm sitting here chuckling remembering various costumes I wore...we always 'made our own' and my brothers and I had a blast going through the old 'dress-up' barrel down in the basement. It was a bit of a competition between us as to who got what to design a costume with; there were, after all, some props and bits and bobs that were worth a king's ransom when it came to Halloween. At any rate, I felt I struck the lottery when I managed to grab my mom's old grass hula skirt one year when the "Addams Family" was all the rage. Voila! "Cousin It" in the flesh! I popped some gigantic sunglasses on and boy, was I ready! Unfortunately, on Halloween night, I discovered that I was quite blind with the skirt and the dark sunglasses across my face....slowed me down significantly, but never one to give up, I kept my costume on and trudged onwards, my brothers racing on ahead, me worried to death about how much more candy they were getting than I was. At each door, however, not only did I get a big laugh and a "wow! that's a great costume", but I snagged a little extra candy to boot! hehe...things have a way of working out...
anyway, I'd love to be entered in the giveaway! already a follower.

  51. I was an only child....so Halloween was hard for me. No one to really do the trick or treating with. But we gave lots of candy out. Parents owned a restaurant and kids hit us hard. I do however love the colors of Halloween, I only did the mask. But now that I have 2 grandkids. Halloween is now fun for me....to make it fun for them.

  52. My favorite was when I was in second grade. We were poor so mom always made our costumes...those are always better anyway. This year she made us into California raisins. There were three of us, my sister three years old, and my little baby sister three years younger. So three different size raisins. Brown fabric made to look wrinkled, big eyes with little holes to see out of, noses and lips...cut outs for the arms and legs. I actually felt picked on for mine and didn't end up wearing it in the parade around school, and when we got home, mom cut a neck hole for me. My older sister kept hers intact and won the costume contest for her age group. My baby sister of course wasn't the greatest about keeping hers on either. I wish we would have gotten some pictures....couldn't afford that back then either.

  53. My fondest memories of childhood are of Christmas and Halloween. One year my mother had a custom red devil costume made for me complete with red horns and tail. My father went to the wood and found just the right the branch to make a pitchfork and painted it bright red to match my outfit. We had a tradition in my town of closing the main street near the end of the school day and we paraded by grade down through the street. To my surprise that year, the teacher selected me to hold her hand and lead the class.

I guess I'm old fashioned but I love celebrating costumes that are embedded in the roots of Halloween, so I have to say that my favorite costume would be a skeleton!

  55. We didn't have much money so I always had to create a "costume" from things at home. My mother had a gold 1950s stretchy bracelet that was always a part of my "gypsy" costume. Anyone remember "pop beads" ... they were all the rage. Both my grandmother & mom had them ... fun to borrow!

I love all of the give-aways! And it is so generous of the artists to provide them. My very favorite though? It has to be Allen's creation ... and I have always wanted one of his originals. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. My favorite is a costume that my daughter bought for me for my birthday, Malificent. I had A LOT of fun with that one and even won a contest with it. I made the staff and had a black Raven on top of it and got the makeup done fairly well too!

    ReplyDelete
  57. All-time-favorite...when I was 5 years old, I insisted going out as a "ghost" & my mother obliged by taking a white sheet, cutting out two circles for the eyes, drawing black circles around the cut-outs, and sewing on a L-O-N-G red tongue that stretched way below my belly-button. Of course, I thought I was being "original" only to find out that every-other-kid donned a ghost outfit.

  58. Growing up we never knew what we were going to be for Halloween until right before trick or treat time,a mad dash for everyone to figure it out.My alltime fav was a Hobo outfit I threw together.Oh and I'm a fan on facebook and a follower of your blog!!

  61. Mom always made our Halloween costumes -- she was an expert seamstress! I had a few favorites, but I think my VERY favorite was the black cat costume made from corduroy! It had a very long tail that she'd stuffed with her old nylons (that kinda shows my age, eh?). Mom died when I was 10, so that was the end of the cool costumes.

  63. How much fun I love Halloween soooo much. My favorite costume was one my Mother made for me. I was a gypsy. She made my skirt of a polished red cotton and sewed playing cards on it. I of course had lots of jewelery and make up. A shawl and a white peasant blouse finished off my fortune telling gypsy...

  64. Great goodies!!! I can't remember all my costumes, but I do remember a last minute "make do" where I made up a bat costume with just cardboard and crayons and some fabric. Less is more sometimes, especially when you live in a rural area in the 70's, no craft type stores around and really no money to buy supplies, but we had fun and decorated old pillowcases to carry our candy in! That's the best!

  65. Remember the costumes that came in a box with the clear plastic window? I had several over the years, but one particular Frankenstein ensemble stands out the most. I had been practicing my monster walk and growl for weeks when that Halloween night of 1969 finally arrived and was panic stricken when the rubber band broke while putting on my mask! My father who wasn't, hasn't, and isn't exactly an active participant in my life, fixed the mask with a mini-stapler he kept in his desk drawer. This man I hardly knew suddenly became my hero. That rare moment of caring attention from my father has imprinted that Halloween night in my heart forever. Frankenstein was by far my favorite costume.

I don't know how I did it but I convinced my Mom to buy me one of these at Mattingly's Five and Dime. It was Caspar the friendly ghost and I wore it for the Kindergarten parade throught school that year for Halloween. I thought I was the best thing ever!

I was Wile E. Coyote one year & thought that was really special. I'm sure I was a handful trying to be exactly like Wile E. When I got older I began making lots of my costumes for dress-up day at school. In high school three friends & I dressed up as a box of crayons. Each of us individually dressed as different colored crayons. Using a cardboard bigscreen T.V. box, we fashioned a crayola box that we got into at the same time. A pair of suspenders helped us hold it up. It was fantastic! We were all the rage that day.

  79. What a great chance to win such wonderful halloween treasures!!!!! My favorite costume was one that my mother made for my daughter when she was two. She made a huge paper mache turtle shell. My mom had a big turtle outside, one of those things to roll your garden hose up inside. She formed the paper mache over that. Took a cheap bookbag and cut the back of the book bag out and glued it to the inside of the turtle shell so she could wear the shell just like a book bag. My daughter wore a black shirt and black leggings with it. The turtle was painted to look real and had glitter and huge rhinestones all over it. She made her a "enchanted" style "wreath" for her head. She was the most beautiful Frog Princess ever. 10 years later I still have the turtle shell to use for my little girl now but the best thing is I was always have the memories of all the work my mom put into it and how beautiful my daughter was. Good luck to eveveryone!!!!

A Disney sweater and mittens.Mom and dad streached my mothers nylons over my head and face with some makeshift round ears secured to the top. Leaving the final step. Painting on the nose and facial features. I have a photo of this costume and snicker every time I see it. the early 80's were awesome. I love my parents creativity. :)

  88. this wasnt MY costume, but I can remember years ago tricker treating with my family and seeing a friend of mine from school in a GIANT PURPLE EGGPLANT COSTUME. He looked good in it, but he would never tell me why he chose to dress up as that....

  89. Hi! I never win these things even though I lust for the prizes (which are wonderful). My favorite Halloween costume happened because as a single mom, just divorced, I had zero money for a Halloween costume for my 10 year old daughter. She received a beautiful invitation to a Halloween party at a very wealthy family's home and all her little friends would be there. I told her we would have to do our own costume and it was one of those moments when I just lost it. I just started sobbing. She had been through so much and I didn't have a nickle to buy anything. She hugged me and told me not to worry--that she had a great idea for a costume. Later that evening, she came out of her room with giant rollers in her hair (remember those), a big hair net over them, white face cream on her face and my robe. She was going as a grownup woman! Later when we went trick or treating, a little boy about 3 years old, ran screaming when he saw her and told his Mommy that he saw an old lady! I'm not sure why that inspired so much fear but it was so funny. We laughed and hugged and it was a wonderful Halloween I'll never forget. My daughter is a lovely woman today and still creative, she's an artist.

I'm a follower and follow you on Facebook. Thanks for this--I hadn't thought about that in years.

  90. My favorite childhood costume would have to have been my bunny suit. My mom made it for me out of white and pink flannel. I loved it so much that I kept the hat, and my own children have both worn it for Halloween. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to have a grandchild that will wear it too, as my oldest son will be 30 this year :) I also follow you on facebook and on my blog. Thanks for all the wonderful art you showcase!

  91. My gosh..thats an easy one for me. Darth Vadar was my most favorite and most memorable costume as a child. Even though it was a cheap knockoff, it still transformed me into this dark powerful being that everyone paid attention to. What made it so memorable was not because it was a Vadar costume..but because it was a girl wearing it! I loved the shock on peoples faces when I slid the mask up off my face..such a dark costume for such a cute little girl. :) Cindy Riordan

  92. Halloween wasn't really a big deal when I was little so now that I'm (cough, cough) all grown up I more then make up for it. I start dressing up in little ways days before, a few rats in the hair, some horns another day, maybe some pointy teeth the next. As soon as Halloween is over I can't wait for the next!

  93. The costume I remember the most wasn't mine..... when I was 4, my sister lived in a basement apt. and a tricker treater had come to the upstairs back door and she took me to see ... it was a monster .... and I screamed so hard, she got scared and dropped me......lol (no I wasn't hurt) lol but to this day I remember it every time I see a scary mask.

  96. Hi & Thank you for this giveaway. Already a fan and follower on facebook!
My favorite Halloween Costume came from the nearby Ben Franklin Store. Every year the boxes with costumes were lined up on the store shelves. The face of the mask and some of the costume showed through the clear plastic on the font of the box.
The best year was when I was Cinderella. A blue silk like stenciled costume tied at the back of your neck. The mask went right on your face with an elastic band that went around the back of your head.
After 5 minutes you were sweating all over the inside of that mask! But you didn't care! I thought I was Cinderella!

  99. I loved to be a witch. It was my favorite costume, I don't know how many years I ended up wearing it. Some years it would include my mom's green mud-clay face mask. Now when I pass out candy I still go as a witch most years :) Thanks for the great opportunity!

  100. Oh, what fun! The Halloween that stands out the most for me was when one of our neighbors painted my face to look like the cat in the band KISS. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

  101. I guess I must of liked being a hobo, it is the only costume I can remember being as a child. Either that or my parents liked to make it easy on themselves and suggested hobo every year.

  102. My fave costume was a skeleton costume my mom made. We had a contest at school. It was 1st grade. The teacher had to guess who we were. She was looking at the back of people's heads under the masks to tell who they were, well mine had a whole hood all the way around so she couldn't see my hair so needless to say I won LOL
    Thanks for entering me....

  104. My favorite costume was a pale blue sparkly Fairy Princess. But living in Milwaukee that year it was very cold and my Mom made me wear my furry brown coat under it. I looked like a cubby teddy bear playing dress up.

  105. Favorite costume: I went as a mermaid. The costume was great, but the party was a drag as I couldn't get up the stairs where everyone was hanging out. Love your site, love Halloween, hope I am eligible to win (I am in Canada). I am a fan on FB but I don't tweet. Happy Halloween in July!

  106. My Favorite Costume was when I dressed up as a really cool devil. I had the red cape, horns and leotards but the best part was the way I did my long hair. It took several hours to braid it into 20 separate sections. Thanks for your beautiful web site. Just found it and I love it!
